Nonino (Italy) 1897

The family Nonino pursues the art of distillation since   1897 года. December 1, 1973 Benito and Gianola Nonino revolutionized grappa production. They distilled the first monovarietal grappa Monovi tigno Nonino with a single grape variety by creating liquor using only the Picolit grape. November 27, 1984 the Nonino produced the first whole-grape distillate, as opposed to the customary mélange of grape leftovers, which they marketed as Acquavite d’uva Ue. November 15, 1989 the Noninos established experimental vineyard of their own where they grow Picolit, Ribolla Gialla, Fragolino, Sciopettino and Pignolo grape varieties to be used thereafter for production of top-quality UE distillate. The Noninos chose immediate distillation of leftovers, vigorously taking challenge of higher production costs for the sake of top-quality grappa. High production costs depend on the following factors: selective raw materials, controlled fermentation, design, construction and installation of 42 interruptible stills, high personal management costs. Besides, grape distillate UE l’Acguavite d’uva was made by Benito and Gianola Nonino only in 1984 and it is a rather “young” product that requires further tests and investments. The Nonino family gave up the whole century to distillation and continuous search for quality. They chose the most complicated, difficult and costly way which resulted in super quality of produced distillates.
