Chateau de Montifaud (France) 1811

In Сhateau de Montifaud situated some kilometers away from Cognac estate the Vallet family produces hand-made luxury cognac since1811 when Pierre Vallet first discovered the secret of its manufacturing.

Chateau de Montifaud cognacs differ fundamentally from more known and much more commercial brands in the fact that all grapes used for cognac production is grown in their own Grand Cru vineyards mount-planted in Petite Champagne and Grand Champagne regions.

Chateau de Montifaud is А.О.С. category name (controlled by origin), and furthermore, is a rare “castle cognac”; and «Mis en bouteille au chateau» mark is an evidence of the fact that cognac is bottled right in the castle that proves its “hand-made” production.

Vineyard space enables to produce not more than 200 thousand bottles per year, therefore this masterpiece can be appraised only by true connoisseurs.

Chateau de Montifaud cognac is represented by the following varieties:

Chateau de Montifaud VS. This cognac originates from the very heart of Petite Champagne.  Differs by refined taste full of vital force. Yellow gold robe with marvelous amber gleams.  Strong and at the same time subtle flavor of blossoming vine shoots with a hint of lime-tree and finishing nuances of apples and pears forms a balanced and surprisingly subtle and mild taste.

Chateau de Montifaud Prestige Premier Cru. It is produced with grapes grown on the best lands of Grande Champagne. After 5-years aging the drink obtains a warm, yellow honey robe.  It has a long-lasting exciting aftertaste enabling to enjoy fruity flavors of peach and citrus. Has a magnificent bouquet amplified with spicery and vanilla notes. Full-bodied, with inimitable fruity lightness, this cognac is appreciated particularly by women. It is a really elegant cognac.

Chateau de Montifaud VSOP. It is produced with grapes homegrown in the vineyards of Chateau de Montifaud Cognac House in Petite Champagne province. Thereafter this top-quality cognac soaks over 10 years in old oak barrels and obtains red gold robe. Lime-tree odor dominates in its bouquet where discerned are notes of blossoming vine shoots followed by finishing refined flavors of dry flowers. Very complaisant and subtle taste of this cognac will be a surprise even for true connoisseurs for its perfection and brightly pronounced fruity aftertaste.

Chateau de Montifaud VSOP DIVA. This cognac is deemed Chateau de Montifaud’s heirloom and is produced with the best grapes grown in Grande Champagne province. One-of-a-kind cognac justifiably bears the name of VSOP DIVA. The drink really surprises by its mildness and smoothness and balanced richness of bouquet where fruity and oak tones generate a feeling of fresh spring morning.   Its generous deep amber robe is conditioned by more than 10-year aging in special barrels. Taste is thick and full, with plum-apricot domination that imparts mildness and enveloping warmness to the drink.

Chateau de Montifaud XO. It is a masterpiece, real luxury in a glass.  This cognac embodies experience, traditions and confidence of Chateau de Montifaud Cognac House masters. This unique blend of rare 1963, 1965 and 1967 millesime spirits was aged in old Limousine oak barrels generating splendid taste and strength of perfect cognac. Prevailing freshness of fleshy plums and candied apricots is tinctured by a light note of burnt almonds. Its sophisticated bouquet includes flavors of spices, oak, honey, and grapes with discreet tobacco hints. No wonder that this amazing cognac got the prize at the International Wine & Spirit Exhibition Vinexpo 1997.

Chаteau de Montifaud Millesime Cognacs. Chateau de Montifaud millesime cognacs (those with the same vintage date, the most successful as a rule) are meant exclusively for true enthusiasts of this drink. These top-quality cognacs passed through all evolution stages to turn into really unique pieces of wine-making art. Each millesime cognac is a real masterpiece.

The is a family tradition in Chateau Montifaud castle – when a heir reaches certain age and joins the family business some barrels of that particular vintage date are placed for over-years storage.

Chаteau de Montifaud 1947 Millesime Cognac. 1947 was marked by the fact that Luis Vallet headed Chаteau de Montifaud House. This cognac from Petite Champagne region was prepared by him personally. It is really highly appreciated in the Vallet family and therefore only a few barrels are accessible to true enthusiasts of cognac art.

Chаteau de Montifaud 1953 Millesime Cognac. 1953 was an exclusive year for cognac making. Vintage of that year from Petite Champagne region was distinguished by rich fruity flavor. Cognac didn’t lose that peculiarity in the course of aging. Every sip of this drink leaves off-flavor of grapes alternating with charming off-flavor of nutmeg and slight bitterness of old oak. If millesime cognac 1947 is deemed the king among Chаteau de Montifaud cognacs, then cognac 1953 is its immediate heir.

Chаteau de Montifaud 1973 Millesime Cognac. According to established standards this cognac can be deemed a young prince royal, as it was made only 30 years ago. This millesime cognac was aged in rather unusual Tronçais oak barrels which imparted a unique and generous character to it. In spite of its relatively young age this cognac bears nearly perfect harmony of apricots, candied peels, honey and fine vanilla fragrance with faint nappa and old oak aftertaste. This outstanding cognac is full of energy and vital force pronounced in its thick harsh odor.
